Early one morning Representative Dixon is caught standing over the corpse of Jack Drysdale, the Speaker of the House’s top staffer, a man she argued with in front of the press the day before. The murder weapon was the Speaker’s gavel. This item was entrusted to Dixon at the time, leading the police to believe they’ve found their killer. To save her job, Kit must clear her boss’s name, and quickly. Dixon’s career may be over if the police declare her a suspect or an anonymous blogger known as Hill Rat breaks the story. Solving this murder will test Kit’s courage and all her fledgling powers of deduction as she roams a spooky, sparsely populated Capitol Hill looking for clues and sounding out suspects.

REVIEW:

If this were to actually happen right about now it would definitely be far more interesting in the halls of Congress.  I genuinely enjoyed how the twists and turns were executed.  The characters were what you would expect from staffers on the Hill I believe and I can really put myself in the shoes of Kit Marshall our intrepid sleuth as, I am by far one of the most unfashionable people that I know.  Overall I want more of this series please!

About The Author

Colleen J. Shogan is a senior executive at the Library of Congress. She is the former deputy director of the Congressional Research Service and previously served as a staffer in the United States Senate. A political scientist by training, Colleen has taught American government at Georgetown University, Penn, and George Mason. Colleen is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She received her BA from Boston College and her doctorate from Yale. A member of Sisters in Crime, she lives in Arlington, Virginia, with her husband Rob Raffety and their rescue mutt, Conan. Her first book, Stabbing in the Senate, won the Next Generation Indie Award for Best Mystery in 2016.

REVIEW:

This was my first experience with Sandy Fairfax and I was not disappointed.  I thoroughly enjoyed this experience; I have to admit that it definitely made me question the legitimacy of the game shows that I love to watch.  The twists and turns that this story took especially in the last part of the book kept me guessing until the end.  I have to say well done very well done.  I will be checking out the previous installments in this series for sure.

 

About This Author

Sally Carpenter is native Hoosier now living in Moorpark, Calif.

She has a master’s degree in theater from Indiana State University. While in school her plays “Star Collector” and “Common Ground” were finalists in the American College Theater Festival One-Act Playwrighting Competition. “Common Ground” also earned a college creative writing award and “Star Collector” was produced in New York City.

Carpenter also has a master’s degree in theology and a black belt in tae kwon do.

She’s worked as an actress, college writing instructor, theater critic, jail chaplain, and tour guide/page for Paramount Pictures. She’s now employed at a community newspaper.

The Sandy Fairfax Teen Idol series is comprised of: “The Baffled Beatlemaniac Caper” (2012 Eureka! Award finalist for best first mystery novel), “The Sinister Sitcom Caper,” “The Cunning Cruise Ship Caper” and “The Quirky Quiz Show Caper.”

She has short stories in two anthologies: “Dark Nights at the Deluxe Drive-in” in “Last Exit to Murder” and “Faster Than a Speeding Bullet” in “Plan B: Omnibus.”

Carpenter penned chapter three of the Cozy Cat Press group mystery “Chasing the Codex.”

About The Author

C. T. Collier grew up in Seneca Falls, NY, left the area for college and jobs, and always wanted to return to the Finger Lakes. Most days you’ll find her writing in her tiny office looking out on a woods populated with fox, deer, wild turkeys, and songbirds. Review

The story in Something’s Knot Kosher was addictive right from the beginning.  I adored the interactions of the ladies and the addition of Jazz to the mix was great, I found myself laughing out loud a few times during the course of the book.  The pace was well done as was the character development was good even though this is the 4^th book I don’t feel like I was lost or unable to follow along, (I will be looking for the other books to read as well).  All in all I truly enjoyed this book.

REVIEW:

In this novel we have a story that will keep you guessing practically up to the big reveal.  I love mysteries that leave you guessing but have great character development and a plausible storyline which is compelling and easy to follow.  I will admit that I have not read the first two books in this series but I will be looking for them soon to get caught up on what happened between the main characters.  You do not have to read them to enjoy this book as I am proof of this.  Val and Gunnar make a good pair and I will enjoy continuing to explore their relationship through the solving of murder mysteries.  If you love a good murder mystery then you will need to check this one out!

I grew up reading everything I could get my hands on from my mom's Harlequin romances to Nancy Drew to Little Women. When I wasn't flipping pages in a library book, I was penning horrendous poems, writing songs no one should ever sing, or drafting stories which have thankfully been destroyed. College and a stint in the U.S. Army came along, robbing me of free time to write and read, although I did manage every once in a while to sneak a book into my rucksack between rolled up socks, MRIs, t-shirts, and cold weather gear. A few years into my legal career, I was exhausted, fed up, and just plain done. I quit my job and sat down to write a manuscript, which I promptly hid in the attic after returning to the law. Another job change, this time from lawyer to B&B owner and I was again fed up and ready to scream I quit, which is incredibly difficult when you own the business. Thus, I shut the B&B during the week and in the off-season and started writing. Several books later I find myself in Istanbul writing full-time.
