Book Blitz Shimmer by Angie and David Smuin

Shimmer
By Angie Smuin and David Smuin
Genre: YA historical fiction, Christian historical fiction

Brief description

I am Lady Mariah of the 8th province.

I've been told my entire life that I’m the one the prophecy spoke of. That I would be the one to lead our people back to peace. But how can that be, I’m still so young? I have no idea how or what I’m supposed to do to save my people.

The reality of what has been spoken about me took on new meaning when my mother and brother were violently attacked. Shortly afterwards, Lord Carnoff attacked our castle and tried to take over the 8th province where my family has been the rightful rulers for generations. My father was forced to send me into hiding where I remained for the last five years waiting for him to send for me.

Then the evil Lord Carnoff’s marriage edict caused so many young ladies, like Bridgett and myself, to be ripped away from their homes and families. He makes them appear before him so he can search for the one with the mark. After Lord Carnoff’s inspection they are placed into the auction where they are sold to the highest bidder.

So many hearts have been broken and dreams crushed by the marriage edict. Love has no place in a land ruled by an evil man or at least that is what I thought. How can love find a way when there is so much at stake and so much that is hidden?

How long can I keep my mark concealed? What will I do when it's discovered

I trained diligently for this day but I’m not sure the preparation was enough.

William wrote Miracle Man because of its humanistic and spiritual messages and because he feels that in our current times--when meritless celebrity has eclipsed accomplishment and the only heroes are those based on comic books, the world needs a real hero--and that, of course, is Robert James Austin, the protagonist in Miracle Man.

  • SUPPOSE is available at Amazon.
  • Discuss this book at PUYB Virtual Book Club at Goodreads.

Book Excerpt:

Real things started happening. No more ducking my head. No more playing the blame-game. That’s the problem being sober and taking life on without a drink in my hand. Don’t get me wrong. My drinking is not an excuse for who I’m not. But my NOT drinking is the only way I’ll find out who I was before taking that first drink.

It was time for me to start doing sober what I always said I’d do drunk.

All eyes were on me; mine are wide open.

REVIEW:

This book overall was good.  It left me with mixed feelings due to how long it took me to start 'caring' about the characters and to want to turn the pages.  However, once that beautiful thing happened the pages started turning really, really fast!  The characters came alive once I got to the end of the second chapter so, I would say that if you find yourself not feeling it give it til at least the end of the second chapter. The scene descriptions were very well done and I felt like I was there seeing and experiencing what Lillian was feeling and seeing.  I will be looking into other books by this author.

For professional organizer Maggie McDonald, moving her family into a new home should be the perfect organizational challenge. But murder was definitely not on the to-do list . . .
Maggie McDonald has a penchant for order that isn’t confined to her clients’ closets, kitchens, and sock drawers. As she lays out her plan to transfer her family to the hundred-year-old house her husband, Max, has inherited in the hills above Silicon Valley, she has every expectation for their new life to fall neatly into place. But as the family bounces up the driveway of their new home, she’s shocked to discover the house’s dilapidated condition. When her husband finds the caretaker face-down in their new basement, it’s the detectives who end up moving in. What a mess! While the investigation unravels and the family camps out in a barn, a killer remains at large—exactly the sort of loose end Maggie can’t help but clean up . . .

Book Tour Clementina by Simon Cann w/ Giveaway and Interview

Clementina
by Simon Cann

GENRE: Crime Thriller

BLURB:

Leathan Wilkey has been hired to babysit Clementina, a seventeen-year-old whose rich daddy is going through a messy divorce and is over-compensating.

Leathan soon tires of her spending habits, her selfie obsession, and her social media preoccupation as his ward drags him from shop to boutique to jeweler, approaching each with the self-possession that comes from a lifetime of getting her own way and never once having to worry about money.

But when Clementina snaps her fingers and her boyfriend doesn’t come running, something is up. He doesn’t appear because he’s been murdered.

When Leathan investigates, he finds that the boyfriend has no background and met Clementina through a connection made by daddy’s business partner.

Daddy’s business partner who has been slowly and progressively putting daddy in a vice, grabbing more of the business, and who is now menacing Clementina directly to manipulate daddy.

Excerpt:

Clementina was clearly offended.

Offended by my apparently uncouth utterance. Offended that I was not paying due reverence. Offended that I was thinking money, when I should be appreciating the art. Offended in the way that only a seventeen-year-old can be offended.

She was able simultaneously to be both a child and a world-weary adult. Neither of whom was accepting of my situation; both of whom were deeply saddened by my obvious circumstances.

She was saddened that I could live in a world like this.

Some people are saddened about famine in Africa. Some are saddened about wars or religious fundamentalists imposing their unyielding doctrines on populations, killing and mutilating children and innocent adults. Clementina was saddened and offended—on my behalf—that the world of jewelry and the exquisite pleasure of fine gems set in delicate pieces of lovingly shaped precious metal had been withheld from me.

She knew—as only one who had been indoctrinated into the secret society knew—that if I had been exposed to the world of bijouterie, then I would appreciate the treat that was waiting for me.

What she didn’t know was that I hated being patronized by seventeen-year-olds. Even if their father was paying me. Not that her father and I had actually done anything as tedious as agreeing a fee.

Or meeting.

Or talking. Even on the phone.

Interview:

Can you describe your dream home?

Location, location, location.
My dream house would be pretty much the house I live in now—I’d just like to fix the squeaky floorboards, the plumbing, and update the electrics.

If we were to come to your house for a meal, what would you give us to eat?

Nothing—I’d take you out for dinner. The dining room table is covered with the research and planning for my next book.

Tell us about the absolute BEST fan letter you have received.

Every time anyone offers a kind word about one of my books, THAT is the best for me. I truly appreciate and am humbled by the consideration given to me by readers.

Say your publisher has offered to fly you anywhere in the world to do research on an upcoming book, where would you most likely want to go?

I’m going to be really dull here (given that I’ve set my series in Paris)… I’d probably go to Paris. But maybe the publisher would like to pay for a better hotel than the one I stayed in last time?

Who designed the book cover for the book you are touring?

For this cover I did something I said I’d never do—I’m using a cover I designed.
I took the photo (of the Pont de Bir-Hakeim—a bridge over the River Seine) when I was in Paris in March. It captured almost exactly the vibe I was after, so the cover is really little more than that photo with my name and the title slapped on top.

Review:

This story started off slow but it was interesting enough to keep the pages turning.  I remember when I reached that point in a story you love the point of what is going to happen next I have to know.  That point was the end of chapter 8 it was a holy moly moment and an attention grabber.  I enjoyed this story quite a lot and will gladly read future offerings from this author.

BLURB:

Krista Winter is in need of legal counsel. Several years ago she was forced to flee her life as a teacher in New Jersey after being shunned for practicing witchcraft, and her past is about to catch up with her.

Jon Bartolo is a dedicated attorney. His days are spent helping his clients with their struggles, and his nights are spent in agony, lost in a world between life and death. His mother, who died three years ago, lurks in his house, suffering from a curse for eternity, without a final resting place.

A smoldering fire ignites between Jon and Krista almost immediately, however, he’s sure his secret would frighten any woman away. An afternoon escape brings them closer, but doubts linger between the love-struck couple.

Burning questions about how to fuse their futures together with so much of their past still clouding the future becomes a heavy burden that they’re both trying to bear on their own. It will take a touch of magic if there’s any hope in sight.

Excerpt:

Steadying herself, Krista stared into his eyes with her heart racing. As Jon moved in again and plunged his tongue deep into her mouth, he caressed her back, and she surrendered mercifully to his touch. Each passion-filled kiss felt as if he was a long lost lover who had reappeared and claimed her heart’s desire. There was no telling what might happen next. Her whole body relaxed as he nuzzled her ear, teasing her with playful nips at her neck. All rules had been broken, but it didn’t matter. His hard shaft rubbed up against her, and she swayed back and forth, unable to break away from temptation. Jon’s breathing sped up as his hands traveled up and down her back. She quietly moaned, lost in another world. Every movement brought her one step closer. Was she lonely enough to have sex with a man she’d just met? Each kiss weakened her guard. Maybe it was fate. As his hand trailed across her back, her body rocked with his. Each flicker of his tongue along the sides of her mouth was electrifying, as if he wanted to devour her, and she found herself in a trance-like state. This was what she’d been missing. Running her hand across his firm bicep, the room spun. The warmth of his body was raising her level of arousal. Here, in the middle of his office, she experienced a passion like no other. Everything seemed right. Lust took control of her senses, and she let herself go with it. With each kiss, he cradled her in his arms, his embrace warm and protective like a warrior of love. How did this happen? Had she found the man she was destined for, or was it all a dream?
